Zelda: Link's Awakening Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. Map Navigation Is Brilliant
Link's Awakening always had the ability to warp between a small number of points on the map in order to speed up the process of travelling across the huge island. There were four in total, and when you stepped in one, you'd be taken straight to the next one, having to potentially step in once again to reach the point you wanted.
Now in the remake, we not only have more warp points available, with at least three new locations easily accessible, you can now specify which point you would like to warp to.
The ocarina song, Manbo's Mambo, while previously warping you to a specific pond, now allows you to warp to any warp point you have unlocked, from anywhere in the world, and will still allow you to warp to the entrance while in a dungeon.
The map has a great zoom function that can allow you to take a step back if you get lost and figure out where you should go next, something which does happen quite often in the Legend of Zelda.
The ability to mark spots on the map is also incredibly useful, players can use the marks to take note of a chest they cannot reach yet, an NPC with a specific request, mark staircases in dungeons to keep track of your path - the possibilities for helping you through the game are huge.
It's all the quality-of-life improvements like these that go a long way into making this remake feel like an incredible improvement upon the original, while still keeping all of the charm that made us love it in the first place.
