4. Frame-Rate In Handheld Struggles

Zelda Link's Awakening Forest
Nintendo

With this being the single biggest negative in this review, and it still not spoiling the game too much, that is really saying something.

However the frame rate issues when the game is being played in handheld mode are simply too frequent to ignore.

When every blade of grass is swaying in the wind and enemies are flying above you dropping bombs, you're running from screen to screen with the depth of field blur (which appears as quite disorientating at first) struggling to keep up with all the action, the game can really stutter.

It brings you out of the immersion and gives you the realisation that this is not quite the perfectly optimised remake it might otherwise have been.

It is not enough to detract from the game's overwhelming number of positives - and we have to assume it will be patched asap - but worth noting all the same.
