10 Horror Franchises Where Every Movie Is Good

1. The Purge

The Purge franchise has one of those ingenious, attention-grabbing concepts that just about every genre filmmaker wishes they came up with first - what if all crime, including murder, was legal for a 12-hour period on one day per year?

And though the original film was a confined, homebound horror-thriller to a fault, it was nevertheless enough of a hit that the four sequels to date were able to expand, taking the grisly action to the streets outside.

While the follow-ups vary wildly in quality, with the second and third being easily the best, they're all doing something interesting with the formula and helping build a fascinatingly pulpy, mayhem-filled world.

A sixth Purge has been in the works for a few years now but not yet materialised, though with the franchise maintaining the same screenwriter, James DeMonaco, across all installments, there's a good chance he nails it again.

Not every movie succeeds as well as each other, but as part of a wider tapestry of ultra-violent urban chaos, the Purge movies make for a thrilling collection.
