10 Horror Movie Sequels You Probably Didn't Know Existed

For one of the all-time classics that should have just been left as it was, Psycho just hasn't been left alone. The original was the iconic masterpiece from Alfred Hitchcock, and though it stood alone for 23 years, Anthony Perkins eventually returned for Psycho 2, which was ultimately followed by three more sequels and Vince Vaughn's 1998 remake.

The characters were then brought into the modern world with Bates Motel, the excellent series starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga. However this wasn't the first Bates Motel offering.

The casual cinema-goer may have been aware of all the sequels and the reboots, but the Bates Motel movie from 1987 is something of an outlier that may have gone unnoticed. It was made for TV, it ignored the other sequels that had come before, acted as a direct follow-on from the original, and featured a very young Jason Bateman.

Though it picked up where Hitchcock left off in 1960, this couldn't have felt further from Psycho in tone, quality, and just about every other measurable metric. Probably best that this one is forgotten, and if you do feel the urge to watch something focused around the Bates Motel, watch the TV series instead.
