10 Horror Movies That Don't Start As Horror Movies
1. Bull
And finally we have by far the deepest cut on this list - Paul Andrew Williams' terrific Bull.
The title character (Neil Maskell) embarks on a violent crusade of revenge against his former gang associates while attempting to rescue his son, and ultimately the horror here is such an unexpected slow burn that most would likely dub Bull a crime thriller instead.
There are certainly hints that something otherworldly is afoot, however, given that a flashback shows Bull being murdered, only for him to still be walking the Earth in the present. But Williams saves the big reveal for the very end of the movie, which heavily implies that Bull did indeed die a decade earlier and has been resurrected thanks to a deal he made with the Devil to avenge his demise.
Once the job's done, we're left to assume that he's going back to Hell.
It's an absolutely bonkers twist, and yet, despite how wild a swing it is, it totally works, no matter that it shifts the entire story into a totally different genre.
