In George A. Romero's Day of the Dead, the world is overrun by zombies, urging soldiers and scientists to seek shelter in a missile bunker. The survivors try to form an escape plan, knowing any day could be their last.

But the biggest threat isn't outside the bunker; it's within, since the corrupt Captain Rhodes runs the place with an iron fist. For this reason, the scientists find themselves in a coercive relationship with the soldiers instead of a cooperative one. Even the soldiers aren't safe, though, since Rhodes emphasises he'll shoot his own men if they don't carry out his orders.

Rhodes isn't just a jerk, but grossly incompetent and idiotic. For example, when Dr. Logan proves the zombies can be controlled, Rhodes has him executed, almost as if Rhodes is deliberately making the worst decisions possible.

In any other situation, a sane person would stay as far away from Rhodes as possible, but since the scientists are trapped in the same building surrounded by starving ghouls, their only choice is to stick with the despicable tyrant or risk being eaten alive.
