20 Horror Movies Everyone Remembers For Just One Scene
12. Hostel: Part II - The Blood Bath
The death of Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) in Hostel: Part II is so effed-up that no-one who sees it will ever be able to scrub it from their mind. They might forget the rest of the movie altogether, but they won't forget this, which is a strong contender for the nastiest death scene director Eli Roth has ever given us. And, as anyone who's followed this gore-loving director's work will know, that is really saying something.
This franchise revolves around Elite Hunting, a sick society where rich people pay for the opportunity to torture people - usually kidnapped backpackers - to death. While vacationing in Slovakia, American art student Lorna is kidnapped and finds herself hanging upside-down and naked above a drained pool. What happens next will mess everybody up.
An unnamed woman enters the room, disrobes, and lies in the bath below Lorna. She then takes a ginormous scythe and repeatedly maims Lorna, literally bathing in her blood, all while Lorna is screaming in agony. When the woman finally slashes Lorna's throat and ends her suffering, it is a relief not just for Lorna, but for the audience too.
It's harrowing to watch, not least because it's happening to the gentlest and most innocent character in this sequel, who's played by Lilly from The Princess Diaries. As for the rest of Hostel: Part II, it's a surprisingly solid, perhaps slightly underrated follow-up to a terrible movie, but nonetheless, outside of this particular scene, Hostel: Part II is forgettable by comparison.
