20 Upcoming Horror Movies NOBODY Asked For

The Sharknado franchise well and truly had its time in the sun and then vanished off the face of the Earth, just as the good lord intended.

The so-bad-it's-bad sci-fi horror franchise became something of a viral phenomenon throughout the 2010s, where six increasingly absurd, cameo-filled installments were released, culminating in 2018's The Last Sharknado: It's About Time.

But back in November, it was announced that Sharknado will be returning with a prequel, Sharknado Origins, set to follow original protagonists Fin and April as teenagers when they encounter a sharknado for the first time.

Anthony C. Ferrante, who directed all six previous films, will return to helm, while production company The Asylum has dubbed it the beginning of the "next era of Sharknado."

Considering that Sharknado absolutely ran itself into the ground with its annualised sequels, this feels very much like a desperate bid to cash in on an IP that used up all its charm a long, long time ago.
