10 Awesome Supergroups We Never Got To See

7. Alter Zeppelin

It didn't feel like the world was truly ready for Led Zeppelin to stop after the sudden death of John Bonham. Ever since scraping together the final pieces of their legacy with Coda in the early '80s, there seemed to be a certain hole missing from Jimmy Page's career that hasn't really been filled. Though Robert Plant has been reluctant in playing in a nostalgia act, Page very nearly got his second wind from the new school of rock.

When Alter Bridge were on tour in support of Blackbird, Myles Kennedy initially got a call asking him if he would be interested in jamming with Page and John Paul Jones in a practice space, with no real set plans other than that. After making some decent demos and jamming on old Zeppelin tunes, the project quickly devolved after Kennedy had to return to his commitments with Alter Bridge. If there's any reason to bring Jimmy Page out of the doledrums though, this is it.

Considering how many legendary licks he has contributed to the rock world with Zeppelin, having fresh blood with Kennedy might just be the kick in the ass that Page needs to kickstart his riff well once again. I mean, if Kennedy could get Slash in good enough shape to turn a solo career, who's to say he can't pull it off again with one of rock's most enigmatic guitar slingers?
