Originally By: Eminem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7YxrYKQBP8 It is often the intention of an artist performing a cover of a song to pay a tribute to the original song or its performer, but with her interpretation of '97 Bonnie and Clyde Tori Amos takes a very different approach. Eminem's original version of the track caused controversy for its lyrical content when it was first released. It details a fantasy in Eminem's head wherein he and his young daughter drive to a lake and dispose of the body of his ex-wife Kim, who he has murdered. Defenders of the song claimed that rather than being threatening, Eminem is actually using black humour rather than violent imagery. Meanwhile the song's critics claimed that the song promoted violence against women. With Tori Amos's cover of the song, which appeared on her album Strange Little Girls, she neither sings the song's lyrics nor tries to rap them. Instead she speaks them in a sinister whisper over the top of a string orchestra, which makes for a truly harrowing, though equally thought-provoking, listening experience.
