https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbKGsEK_T9g Released on the Help album in 1965, Ive Just Seen a Face is an uptempo country and western foot-thumper from Paul McCartney. Recorded in the same session as Yesterday, the lyrics expertly capture the thrill of falling in love at first sight, while the music combines the folk stylings of Simon and Garfunkel with a dash of Elvis Presleys hip-shaking swagger. In 1965, McCartney, ensconced in a love affair with Jane Asher, had fallen slightly behind his writing partner in the songwriting stakes. John Lennon had written and sung lead on the previous few singles, including Ticket to Ride and Help, and had seemed a more prominent force on albums A Hard Day's Night and Beatles for Sale, but with Ive Just Seen A Face and the spellbinding Yesterday, McCartney roared back to form. The bands US label Capitol Records chose to use Ive Just Seen a Face as the first track on the US version of the Rubber Soul album with an eye on the burgeoning folk rock scene in the US. Loved by Beatles fanatics, it's a song every busker should learn as it would earn them buckets. Underrated by the wider public perhaps, but not by McCartney himself who has regularly featured the song in his live set. Paul knows best.
