10 Most Underrated Rock Albums Of The '90s

1. Yield - Pearl Jam

After you've hit it big, it almost becomes impossible to please everyone. Even if you put your heart and soul into your latest release, there's always going to be that guy who thinks you sold out and how you'll never do anything worthwhile again. You can't rewrite history, but you can still adapt, and Pearl Jam did just that on Yield.

And it's good that they did too, considering that No Code hit a pretty sour note with fans years before. Needing a bit of a course correction, Yield feels like the guys are rediscovering why they loved playing music in the first place, with new drummer Jack Irons finally finding his place in the band. There's also a lot more of a democracy amongst the songwriting here, with everyone bringing their A-game to the table from Stone Gossard's amazing riff on Do the Evolution to the subtle beauty of Jack Irons' Low Light.

Since Eddie Vedder spent the first half of Pearl Jam's career trying to reinvent what they were from the ground up, this sounds like a band playing to their strengths and actually coming through with a great album at the end of the day. It's not going to change the world overnight, but this is a band that actually sounds like they're having fun making music, and you'll have just as much fun hearing it too.
