10 Perfect Rock Songs That Musicians Hate

1. Across the Universe - The Beatles

With all the time that has past, it's safe to call John Lennon the resident hater of the Beatles. Even though he's responsible for writing some of the greatest songs of the modern age, Lennon was always quick to say that some of the Beatles' material was straight garbage, including some of his own songs. If we're talking about Across the Universe though, the hatred has everything to do with the production...not the song.

During the process to make the album Let It Be, Lennon still looks back on Across the Universe as a song with lost potential. From the moment that he wrote it back in the day, he always knew the song was something special, saying that the lyrics are some of the purest that he has ever written. When it came time to record it though, he was never satisfied with every other Beatle getting on the same page, while also commenting about how he sounds out of tune on the final recording.

Even during his solo years in the '70s, Lennon had expressed a desire to redo the song, which he ended up doing (kind of) when he decided to lend some guitar to David Bowie's version of the song on his album Young Americans. Not every song is meant to knock you off your feet, but when you have one that's just on the edge of being brilliant, it will always drive you crazy.
