10 Rock Songs That Killed Bands' Career
7. Cleopatra's Cat - Spin Doctors
It's hard to think of any '90s kid who actually felt that strongly about the Spin Doctors. As much as songs like Two Princes may have been catchy and got the crowd moving at the Horde Festival, it's not like they were going to shape the musical landscape overnight or anything. They seemed to think they had that power though, and for their second outing, they figured they'd go more ambitious and arty than anyone was willing to go.
Compared to the radio ready hooks of something like Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, Cleopatra's Cat is barely even a song. Though it definitely has its fair share of memorable moments, this is not necessarily putting your best foot forward for a rock song, since most of it revolves around scat singing and some weird tribal sounding beat that doesn't match well at all.
It's almost comical looking back on how proud they were of this song, saying that it had been years since something like this every came across the radio charts. While they have a fair point, there's also the question of why it needed to be on the radio in the first place. Even though this is far from terrible, it pretty much confirmed that the Spin Doctors were going to have a sophomore slump.
