Every Iron Maiden Album Closing Song Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner - Powerslave
Iron Maiden have never been ones to do things normally, so it's only appropriate that their best ever closing song be taken from an 18th Century poem.
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge is a 625-line-long tale of a seaman who commits a terrible sin on the waves. Maiden took one look at this and decided it would make a great base for nearly 14 minutes of metal, and they were right.
The band gives the rhyme all the respect it deserves, matching its grandness with huge sounds and a ferocious vocal delivery. It really shouldn't work, but Maiden commit to it so much, that it is every bit as legendary as its source material.
