4. She Thinks Emma Watson Was Too Good Looking To Play Hermione
In a lengthy discussion between J.K. Rowling and Daniel Radcliffe about the film versions of the Harry Potter series, Rowling admitted that Emma Watson was much too good looking to play the part of Hermione. When Watson was cast, Rowling had never seen her before, and the two had only spoken on the phone. According to Rowling, had she actually seen what Watson looked like, she would never have agreed to the casting decision. Rowling goes on to detail her disappointment with a scene in The Goblet Of Fire, specifically the Yule Ball. In the scene, Hermione is supposed to appear transformed, dressed up beautifully for the dance. This Rowling feels is lessened by the fact the audience already knows she's attractive. Not only that, but Rowling had envisioned Hermione as a strong female character who was primarily about intellect, not looks, making her decision to try and appear more attractive an extremely significant decision for the character.
