10 Celebrities Who Were Murdered By Their Own Fans
7. Albert Ebosse
On August 23, 2014, Albert Ebosse walked off the pitch after an Algerian Ligue 1 match while angry fans hurled projectiles at the players from the stands. His side, JS Kabylie, had just suffered a 2-1 home loss to USM Alger. Ebosse had scored JS Kabylie's consolation goal from a penalty spot. He was also the Algerian league's top scorer. One of those projectiles would end his life.
The official statement at the time stated that he had been struck on the head by a slate tile that dented his skull and impacted his brain. JS Kabylie was banned from all pan-African competitions for two years and forced to play home matches in an empty stadium.
Four months after Ebosse's death, a Cameroonian pathologist hired by his family disputed the official cause of death. Dr. Andre Moune said a slate tile couldn't have caved his skull and killed him even if thrown from the stands because it wouldn't have sufficient force.
He said Ebosse had other injuries consistent with a struggle including a stab wound on the shoulder and ruptured cervical vertebrae. Dr. Moune suggested that the striker may have been beaten to death in the dressing room. The Algerian government reopened an inquest into the matter. Seven years later, there are still no answers.
