10 Joe Rogan Experience Guests That Didn't Live Up To Expectations

6. Jeff Novitzky - JRE MMA Show #53

Jeff Novitsky's third appearance on the JRE in 2018 couldn't have come at a better time.

Back then the MMA world was in an uproar after it was revealed that Jon Jones had been flagged after inconsistencies with one of his pre-fight drug tests. Despite this, the UFC made the decision to move the entire UFC 232 event to California after the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to sanction the contest in order to ensure that Jones was able to compete.

So who better to clear up this whole mess then Jeff Novitzky, a sports doping expert employed by the UFC as the Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance?

The reason this episode is considered disappointing, and why it is currently standing at more than a 2:1 ratio of dislikes to likes on YouTube, is that many viewed Novitsky's appearance as purely damage control propaganda for the UFC and that he acted more like a defence attorney than an impartial spokesman.

With fans demanding answers to several pertinent questions such as: why had fellow UFC fighter, Tom Lawlor received a much more severe punishment than Jones? And why Jones was going to be cleared to fight despite the organisation acknowledging that he had banned substances in his system? Many hoped that Novitzky would be the man to answer these questions and more, and ultimately clear up the confusion surrounding the controversy but unfortunately, his appearance on the JRE MMA Show did anything but.
