8. She Revealed Neville Longbottom's Parents Never Recover From Their Insanity
Neville Longbottom is another one of Rowling's most three-dimensional characters. Starting awkward and without an ounce of self-determination, Neville gradually gains confidence not just as a wizard but as a person. His back story, too, is heart-breaking he's raised by his grandmother Augusta Longbottom following the repeated torture of his parents Alice and Frank, which drove them to insanity and forced them to be institutionalized at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Neville's upwards character arc, then, gave fans hope that Nevilles's parents would also find some sort of redemption, but sadly J.K. Rowling detailed in a post-Potter interview that the damage is permanent, and that they stay in St. Mungo's for the rest of their lives. Not only that, but she actually compared Neville's parents' fate to that of James and Lily Potter, stating that what happens to Neville's parents is even worse.
