10 Weirdest Stephen King Stories You Need To Read
2. Drunken Fireworks
Drunken Fireworks is a short story also featured in 2015's Bazaar of Bad Dreams. It tells the story of the McCausland family, Alden and his mother, as they spend the 4th of July in their little lake house.
Their modest display of fireworks spark a feud with the Massimo family across the lake, a wealthy family with alleged ties to organised crime. Year after year, their firework shows become more elaborate as they attempt to outdo one another in a manic and bitter rivalry.
The story stands out from King's other works – especially with its place in the Bazaar of Bad Dreams, which is a collection of some particularly dark tales – as it is purely comedic in nature. The comedy is dark, admittedly, but there is nothing scary or unnerving about the story. It is light-hearted and outlandish, and much-needed in its place towards the end of the collection.
