It's because, in that moment, you are essentially an exploding germ ballistic, firing your filthy mucous vapour out into the world. The average sneeze can travel up to 200 feet, that's almost twice the length of a Boeing 747, FYI, so there's a pretty high chance that you're coated in a little sheen of somebody else's mucous right now. Which is a lovely thought. The slow-mo sneeze is truly a sight to behold, as the person briefly loses control of their entire face and expels the contents of their mouth and nose.
