20 Freakishly Specific Predictions From History That Came True
7. Paul The Octopus Plots Germany's Semi-Final Exit At The 2010 World Cup Early (2010)
Not all successful predictions have come from human beings, however. No, in fact an Octopus named Paul correctly plotted Germany's course through to and then exit at the semi-final stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Paul's keepers at the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen presented him with the flag of Germany and whoever they were facing at the tournament, and whichever one he pointed at was deemed as his "predicted" victor. He correctly determined that Joachim Low's side would beat Australia, lose to Serbia and then defeat Ghana in the group stages. Then he predicted that Germany would beat England in the last 16, defeat Argentina in the quarter-finals, before losing to Spain in the semi-finals. Interestingly, Paul also guessed that Germany would beat Uruguay in the third-place play-off. Unfortunately, Paul's oracle powers were short-lived as he died just three months after the tournament.
