9. Face Blindness

Imagine waking up one morning, heading downstairs and finding a stranger sat eating your cereal in their pants. You run, screaming into another room, where there are two strange children watching your TV. You barricade yourself in the bathroom and it's a couple of minutes before you realise that the person staring back at you out of the mirror is also a complete stranger.

Smash cut to the scene outside the bathroom door, where your partner and your kids are stood in a concerned huddle, because you have prosopagnosia, or "face blindness".

This condition leaves sufferers incapable of recognising faces. Whilst the true effect might not be as extreme as we made out when we were being dramatic, sufferers do report not being able to recognise loved ones or even thier own faces. Often, they are only able to recognise people once their brain has a little context such as the person speaking to them, or just realising that they're looking in a mirror.

It is also thought that as many as one in 50 people may have some degree of developmental prosopagnosia, which could explain why you're so terrible with faces. Either that or you're just rude.
