Alton Towers: Ranking The Rollercoasters From Worst To Best
2. Air
Built by Bolliger and Mabillard and opened to the public in 2002, Air offers an exhilarating experience that is similar to flying. The rider mounts the carriage in a standing position and is secured in place, but is subsequently re-positioned in a horizontal position, facing downwards in a 'Superman-esq' position before embarking. Despite only reaching a top speed of 47mph, the experience a rider gets when riding air - flying close to footpaths, rocks and trees and flying under bridges - takes their breath away and the sensation of being prone and exposed makes it that much more thrilling (particularly when the coaster inverts and the riders find themselves on their backs). All things considered, Air narrowly pips Nemesis to the second position in this list.
