10 Best NBA Finals Of The 21st Century

1. Miami Heat 4-3 San Antonio Spurs

Spurs fans, look away now. Everybody else, cast your minds back two years and relive the most exciting NBA Finals series of the millennium so far. Game 1 saw the Spurs sting the Heat with a victory in Miami, snatching a 92-88 win after limiting Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade to two points (between them!) in the fourth quarter. LeBron amassed a triple-double however, ominous signs of the high standard he would maintain throughout the series. His Heat evened the series on the back of an excellent three point performance from Mario Chalmers and Ray Allen, blowing out the Spurs by 19. San Antonio responded in kind, setting the NBA Finals record for most three pointers in a game (16) en route to an utter demolition. Chalmers was absolutely shut down after his Game 2 heroics, unable to score a single point. Danny Green, meanwhile, stepped up to the plate with 27 points - one of the best scoring performances of his career. Game 4 finally saw Miami's 'big three' hit their stride at the same time, James, Wade and Bosh combining for 85 of their team's 109 points. 2-2, and an intense finish was on the cards. The Spurs were unnervingly dialled-in for Game 5, shooting over 60% from the field to secure a 114-104 win. A victory in Game 6 would have secure their fifth championship since 1999, and they came about as close to winning the game as they could have (without actually doing so). Up 95-92 with seconds remaining, the Spurs forced LeBron James into missing his attempt at a game-tying three pointer...only for Bosh to grab the offensive rebound and dish the ball to Ray Allen. Allen justified his status as one of the most cold-blooded shooters in NBA history, dashing behind the arc and drilling an unbelievable three pointer to send the game to overtime. The Heat pulled away to win Game 6 over a demoralised Spurs, who shook off their shock to put up a valiant fight in Game 7. It wasn't enough however, as LeBron rolled them over to the tune of 37 points and 12 rebounds, grabbing his second championship ring and the NBA Finals MVP award. It had been a series of intensity, drama, heartbreak and triumph, and certainly deserves its billing as the best of modern NBA history.
