10 Dream UFC Fights Dana White Wanted To Promote

4. Pettis vs. Aldo

Aldo Pettis Showtime vs. Scarface. Flash vs. Style. The Showtime Kick vs. The Leg Kicks from Hell (okay I made that last one up). After UFC 156, where Jose Aldo defended his featherweight strap against Frankie Edgar, who had dropped down from lightweight, former WEC champ Anthony Pettis, who had been waiting for a shot at Benson Henderson in the UFC, texted Dana White to say he wanted a fight with Jose Aldo. And the MMA community lost its mind thinking of how epic such a bout would be. The bout was made almost on the spot. White loved the fight, loved that Pettis wanted it, and it was to take place August 3rd, 2013. Then Pettis wound up injured, out of the match, and later fighting Benson Henderson anyway and winning the lightweight championship. The Aldo talk wasn't over. There were champion vs. champion bouts discussed. Catchweight. The idea of Aldo dropping his belt and moving up. All this as recently as February 2014. Thing is, Aldo didn't want to drop his belt, and Pettis wound up injured, then signed to coach the Ultimate Fighter 20 against Gilbert Melendez, who he'll fight in December. That's a dream fight in itself: the former WEC lightweight champion vs. the former Strikeforce lightweight champion. Should it happen and Pettis win, maybe we'll see Pettis vs. Aldo anyway.
