Arsenal Director Denies £1.5 Billion Takeover

circulating yesterday that Arsenal could have been taken over in the next few weeks from a Middle East consortium, similar to the Manchester City takeover back in 2008. A £1.5bn takeover would likely provide more funds to rebuild the team and help the club fight off the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and Chelsea in the annual race for Champions League places. Dreams of David Villa and Edinson Cavani were soon suppressed however when Arsenal€™s Director of Communications, Mark Gonnella told BBC Sport:

€œMr Kroenke is committed to Arsenal FC for the long term and has no intention of selling.€
He continued:
€œThere has been no contact from any consortium regarding a takeover."
The sales of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in recent seasons as well as not winning a trophy since 2005 has infuriated fans and caused a backlash against Wenger and Chairman Peter Hill-Wood. Speaking after a 2-1 defeat to rivals Tottenham, Arsene Wenger commented on the recent speculation regarding his position;
"I don't know anything about it, I heard it like you in the newspapers. You are only vulnerable if you want to sell and you need money. , that doesn't concern me at all, that is down to the owners."
Arsenal are currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table and with Champions League not guaranteed, fans seem to be demanding change, whether it's the manager or the owners.
