Fantasy Football Tips: 6 Essential Transfers You Must Make In Gameweek 31 - Part 1
5. Seamus Coleman
Team: Everton (vs Swansea, home) Position: Defender Value: £6.6m Selected by: 37.3% Total score: 141 It's funny how the other person that made me cry myself to sleep the previous week is also from Merseyside. Before Gameweek 29, I transfered Coleman out in place of Patrice Evra, and he repaid my faith by scoring a goal and playing so good, it renders KFC's slogan irrelevant. In an incredible showing against strugglers Cardiff City last week, Coleman scored his seventh goal of the campaign in the dying minutes to win the game for Everton. His bonus of three points won from a 2-1 result clearly indicates his spectacular form this season, with no signs of slowing down yet. At £6.6m, it is a no-brainer to have him for the rest of the season, something I'm positive the overwhelming majority of the 37.3 percent who selected him would agree. He is just one point away from Chelsea's John Terry, the current top scoring defender, whose team suffered an embarrassing defeat at Villa Park recently, and yet cost £0.2m less than him. Patrice Evra and Terry's partner Branislav Ivanovi cost £6.6m and £6.7m respectively, but they are almost 20 points behind him in the points rankings. Additionally, Coleman has the tendency to do well against strong teams, with him securing clean sheets against Chelsea and Tottenham this season, as well as making every match against lower opposition count, perfectly illustrated in double-digit performances against Norwich City, Stoke City, Fulham, and most recently Cardiff City. Maybe the "City" has something to do with it. With weaker opponents to come in the coming weeks, and two 'City's to face in their final two games, Coleman has a huge shot at crossing the 200-point hurdle should he not overtax himself (he hasn't miss a game due to injury this season). Completing a full 90 minutes in all but a stunning one match this campaign, perhaps the Toffees boss Roberto Martinez sums it up best:
"It is rare to have someone who can defend, be strong in one-v-one situations, cover the centre-backs and then have the stamina to get forward. Seamus has a clinical eye in front of goal... and it is quite difficult to find a better full-back than him."
