West Ham Transfer News: Dejan Stankovic In From Inter

Sam Allardyce weighing up a move for 33-year-old Serbian veteran

According to reports from Football Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio Sam Allardyce is lining up an ambitious move to bring 33-year-old Inter veteran Dejan Stankovic to Upton Park, despite the Serbian international recently pledging his future to the club amid a raft a high-profile potential departures from The Nerazzurri. Stankovic is the latest eye-catching name to be linked with the Hammers after last week's news that Big Sam was considering a move for Clarence Seedorf, who instead opted to sign for Botafogo in Brazil, as well as Alessandro Del Piero and yesterday's link with Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku. Inter are currently stream-lining their squad to make way for new, younger talent and to cut down what is a considerable wage bill. And now it seems Stankovic, who has spent nine seasons at Inter Milan, making over 300 appearances and winning an impressive five Serie A titles and a Champions League winners medals in his time there, is the latest player on his way out. He would follow Lucio out of the door, with reports that keeper Julio Cesar and former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan are set for the exit, and recurring rumours that full-back Maicon is on his way to the Premier League and Chelsea. West Ham will be looking for experience, as well as some eye-catching acquisitions to give fans confidence ahead of the new season that the London club aren't merely turning up to make up the numbers, and intend to plant some roots back in the Premier League. Whether this agenda of going for older players - like Guti - will pay off for Allardyce as it did at Bolton remains to be seen, with the recent models established by Newcastle United and Swansea and Norwich last year suggesting that youth and lower contracts is the way to stay in the Premier League after promotion. Time will tell, if this report turns out to be true. What do you think, Hammers? Would you welcome the signing? Let us know below.
