007 Similarities Between Doctor Who And James Bond

5. Their Fix-All Gadgets

If only Bond's gadgets could be a little more... 'sonic'! Both Bond and the Doctor seem to be fans of convenient gadgetry which will get them out of any sort of tight pinch and the sonic screwdriver often appears to be utterly limitless in it's capabilities. While the Doctor seems to have built the sonic screwdriver himself, Agent 007 has to rely on Q-Section to provide his bells and whistles. While Q and the team he heads up seem to have the gift of foresight, given that they always provide Bond with exactly the gadgets he requires on his upcoming missions, they also have a habit of over doing it. Indeed, Q seems to have gone through a period of dreaming up the most absurd and eccentric toys for Bond to play with, all of which seem to have come in useful in one way or another. However, it wasn't until the most recent Bond film, Skyfall, that audiences see Q implement a bit of simple gadgetry that Doctor Who fans will already be familiar with - isomorphic controls. When Q gifts 007 his trademark Walther PPK/S, he points out that the grip is programmed with sensors which read Bond's palm print and, thus, will only fire for him. While the Doctor doesn't implement this tech on his screwdriver, John Simm's incarnation of the Master did make this a feature of his laser screwdriver. Which begs the question... is this a case of Time Lord tech being utilised by MI6? Fans, start your theorising... now!
