10 Actors That Were So Bad They Had To Quit TV Shows

5. Philip Bruns - Seinfeld

Another example of an actor getting a role purely based on their reputation in the industry, Philip Bruns appeared on Seinfeld for one episode before it was decided that he wasn't a good enough fit for the show.

Known for featuring in a few classic film and TV series back in the day, this actor clearly wasn't cut out for modern-day television. His acting was too laid back as Morty Seinfeld, and as a result, the actor left the show and was replaced with the harsher Barney Martin.

Bruns isn't a bad actor, per se, but acting has morphed over the years, and what was once considered to be an outstanding performance, isn't viewed in the same way nowadays. That is exactly what happened in the case of Philip Bruns and Seinfeld. Bruns just wasn't the right fit for what showrunners Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld were looking for, and to avoid a flop with the ratings, he was promptly cut before the second episode was even made.

The actor went on to feature in a few films and shows after that, but nothing that ever made the Seinfeld directors regret their decision.
