10 Actors Who Became Cult Heroes From 1 TV Role

1. David Tennant - Doctor Who

David TennantThe Role That Made Him A Cult Hero: Playing the handsome, magical 10th regeneration of The Doctor on Doctor Who. Fan-Favourite Quote: 'I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasteroborous. I'm 903 years old. And I'm the man who's gonna save your life and the lives of all 6 billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?' David Tennant was in a heap of stuff before he became the cult hero he is today. He acted in dozens of British television shows, plays, and films. None of which being anywhere near as big as his role in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire in 2005. This film came out only a month prior to the premier of Doctor Who's second season, in which Tennant took on the role of the 10th regeneration of The Doctor. A role which exposed him to millions of potential new fans, and mostly importantly, the kinds of fans who would worship and unconditionally love him. Doctor Who's return to television was a year before Tennant took on the role of the title character, but Chris Eccleston, although celebrated in his own right as the 9th Doctor, would never have brought the show's fandom to the levels that David Tennant took it to. He was an instant hit. Girls wanted him. Guys wanted to be him. He managed to make Doctor Who pretty cool and a hell of a lot more accessible. Tennant took Russel T. Davis' writing and did it so much justice, adding new layers of depth to the character that were never seen before. One of the main reasons why Tennant's Doctor became such a sensation, besides the obvious facts that he's good-looking, charming and geeky in a lovable way, was that he brought a much more human side to the character. His relationship with Rose would become the show's (and probably the whole damn internet ) most popular and beloved pairing. The fact that the doctor was getting so in touch with his time-lord emotions was such an appealing thing to the cult masses, and everyone loves a good love story, even one as unconventional as this. The most loved actor and character in one of the biggest cult shows in the world, it's hard to top David Tennant in terms of his impact on the world on hardcore fans. Since stepping down as the Doctor in 2010, David has continued to act in films, theatre and an episode here or two on tv. His fanboys and fangirls follow. Oh, and between you and me, I prefer Matt Smith myself. Hope you've enjoyed reading this piece. I had fun writing it. Keep in mind, just because I put these actors and characters in the list, doesn't necessarily mean I like them all as much as everyone else. Just saying! All comments, queries and criticisms welcome.
