A story about how powerful music can be, Kosei Arima lives his life with a monotone view of the world, having been that way since both the death of his abusive mother and his own breakdown during a piano performance two years ago. The once piano prodigy who struck fear into the hearts of his competition is now just a regular student who only touches a piano when needed for his part-time transcribing songs for karaoke places, and even then, he can’t hear the notes he plays due to his trauma. That is until he happens to cross paths with a beautiful girl, happily playing a melodica for the young children around her.

For the first time in two years, Kosei can finally see colors again. Although it seems like Kosei has finally found someone who could bring him back into the world of color and music, the beautiful young violin player, Kaori Miyazono, happens to only have eyes for Kosei’s best friend. Even then, the high-tempered girl attempts to push the sullen former piano player back into the spotlight and make him rediscover his love of music.

Fighting both his feelings for the girl who only sees him as the dependable “Friend A” and the fears of playing a piano again, Kosei needs to find his own path in life. With the support of his close friends and the loud girl who made him see color again, Kosei gets back onto the stage and makes the classical music world remember exactly who he is.
