10 Awesome Cyborgs in TV History

4. Kryten - Red Dwarf (1988-2012)

Kryten is one of my (and many other people's) favorites from Red Dwarf. I've always had trouble deciding if Kryten is a robot or a cyborg, but I settled on cyborg. When deciding on my list of television cyborgs, I thought I remembered Kryten's brain being partially organic, but that wasn't conclusive enough for me to put him in this article. I finally decided on Kryten being a cyborg based on the "DNA" episode of Red Dwarf Season 4. In this episode, Kryten is transformed into a human by a DNA modifying machine. Now if he didn't have actual DNA, he would have to be 100% robot and therefore would not have been transformed, right? Additionally, this episode makes him marginally match Tim's Third Law in that he was once a living human - if only for a few minutes - and had most of his humanity replaced by robotic parts, so we're good there. That's the logic I'm going with. I'm sure a few of you disagree.

Tim is a varied character. He's lived on three continents. He hates ice cream. He has been a highly-paid computer programmer. He invents collectible card games. He is a coffee shop owner. He has had fantasy stories published in magazines. Eventually he wishes to retire from life and become a professional 10-pin bowler who writes articles while living in his RV and traveling from bowling tournament to bowling tournament with his faithful wife in tow. And of course, Tim is a major horror and science fiction fan.
