10 Awesome New TV Shows You Need To Watch

7. We Were The Lucky Ones

Shogun FX
Hulu

There may be some who sit down to watch We Were The Lucky Ones and wonder how much it could possibly have to say about the Holocaust and those it so horribly affected, but rest assured that this is one miniseries sure to bowl you over with its story.

Moving and, yes, a frequently harrowing watch, the miniseries is based on the book of the same name by Georgia Hunter, and tells the story of the semi-autobiographical Kurcs family, who are torn apart and separated by the war, and in its aftermath work tirelessly to find each other again.

Driven by a host of remarkably powerful performances, especially from series leads Joey King, Logan Lerman, Amit Rahav and Deadwood's Robin Weigert, as well as its ability to be at once soul-shatteringly bleak and full of hopeful determination, We Were The Lucky Ones takes a familiar tragedy and injects it with fresh, life-affirming insight.

Intimate, gorgeously shot, and vital, We Were The Lucky Ones won't be an easy journey to take, but it is one that rewards you for taking the leap.
