10 Banned Anime From Around The World (And Why)
3. Excel Saga's Final Episode - Japan
Like Mr Osomatsu, this series is still available in Japan, albeit missing one vital piece of the puzzle. This time, instead of the beginning, this anime loses out on its ending, but in a strange twist of fate it seems this ban was entirely intentional.
Excel Saga is a strange anime that follows the titular character (Excel) as she attempts to help a secret organisation achieve world domination, focussing on the city of Fukuoka as a starter. Unfortunately, she's not the best at her job, which leads to plenty of silly hijinks and an overall goofy series.
Still, the final episode, (subtly) titled "Going Too Far" takes the show to the next level by crossing as many boundaries as it can. It's excessively violent, highly offensive, and essentially pornographic.
However, getting the final episode banned was a ploy from director Shinichi Watanabe who wanted to make an episode that would be banned from TV. This bizarre choice was simply a matter of wanting to push the limits of a TV series.
He certainly did that, as Japan ended up banning the episode, with the last note only being available on home video.
