While it might be difficult to remember, there really was a time before the entire world knew who the Griffin family was.

While the show's popularity has waned in recent years, there was a period not too long ago when you could hardly breathe for Family Guy merchandise or references, and at its peak it seemed to be everyone's favourite show - even having made a cool $1 billion in revenue by 2008!

Having recently been renewed for a nineteenth season, it seems that Family Guy will outlive us all. But way back in its third season, ratings had slipped so much that Fox axed the show.

The show's fans weren't willing to take it lying down, though. When the series was released on DVD, the first month alone saw 400,000 sales - which was enough for Fox to promptly realise what a mistake they had made in cancelling the show prematurely.

Family Guy was revived and went on to enjoy its peak years, although ratings have long since slipped below those of its third season. Still, it doesn't seem like the Griffins are going anywhere any time soon.
