10 Beloved TV Shows SAVED By Fans
4. Futurama
After the unprecedented success of The Simpsons, Matt Groening's sophmore effort Futurama was an animated sci-fi comedy that took us far from the familiar town of Springfield.
Premiering in 1999, Futurama told the story of Philip J. Fry, a 20th century pizza delivery guy who ends up accidentally cryogenically frozen for a millennium before waking up on New Year's Eve 2999.
While the show was a hit with fans, Fox executives were reportedly none too keen on Futurama and so stopped buying episodes halfway through production of the fourth season.
Futurama was never officially cancelled, but Fox had effectively ended the show's run in 2003 after only four short but stellar seasons.
Popularity in syndication and DVD sales saw Comedy Central express interest in the show, eventually committing to four straight-to-DVD movies in place of a fifth season.
When the show's hungry fans snapped these up, Comedy Central had all the proof they needed that Futurama was a property worth owning and the show ended up running with CC until 2013 when it ended for good.
While Futurama was never able to boast the longevity of its older, yellower sibling, it was at least given a second chance and a proper ending, and you can't say fairer than that.
