The Simpsons is a wonderful family cartoon, Futurama is an absurd crude edgier cartoon that has a much different target demographic.
Futurama is the story of Fry, a delivery boy from the year 2000 who is cryogenically frozen by accident. He wakes up in the year 3000 and begins work at an interplanetary delivery service where he and the crew have all kinds of misadventures. A great concept for a sitcom.
But what makes Futurama special is its incredible inventiveness. Each episode feels completely original which is a unique feature among sitcoms. Each story goes somewhere unexpected and ends ups circling back in the most beautiful way, a testament to the magnificent writing staff that worked on Futurama.
