10 Best Character Arcs In Shows Produced By Michael Schur
3. Rosa Diaz – Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The most formidable character in the Michael Schur-Verse, Rosa Diaz is more than a person with violent tendencies. Throughout the series, Rosa appears to be the most confident, self-assured character around. When it comes to her job as a detective, she never second-guesses herself. As time moves on, Rosa reveals she is a very complex character.
Though incredibly private, we find Rosa to have an eye for design, a passion for family, and a surprisingly broad educational background. Rosa also reveals she is bisexual. After a stint in prison, Rosa realizes that she wants to reconnect with her estranged family. The problem is that Rosa is afraid her family will reject her true self. Sadly, her family struggles with her identity. As upsetting as that is, it brings her closer to her unit and results in a touching moment between her and Captain Holt. He tells her, “Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place. So thank you.”
Rosa has a wide variety of talents but rarely shows off. Often divulged as a quick joke, we see that she is overwhelmingly intelligent and talented. Nothing demonstrates this more than when she devises an elaborate way to win the Halloween Heist three times in one year. Time and time again, Rosa reveals herself as so much more than an intimidating detective.
