10 Best Crime TV Shows (Since Breaking Bad)

1. Fargo

Money Heist
FX

Remaking movies on the small screen has been a hit and miss operation, and taking on a property as beloved as Fargo seemed a big risk. For this adaptation, though, broadcasters FX had a trick up their sleeves in Noah Hawley, the series’ creator, who is able to maintain the spirit of the Coen brothers film while creating something entirely original.

Each season is ostensibly its own standalone story, though the action is all set in the same world (being that of the original film), and the seasons interact in manners both obvious and hidden. The casting has been perfection throughout, from stars like Billy Bob Thornton and Ewan McGregor, TV stalwarts like Carrie Coons and Jesse Plemons, and discoveries like Allison Tolman and Olivia Sandoval.

The three seasons are distinct but of a tone; it’s difficult to choose which you like best. Fargo blends black comedy and dramatic violence like other shows wish they could - it has such a strong vision, telling wild, compelling stories while maintaining a lightness of touch. Season four has been delayed by present global events, but we’d have no doubt it’ll be superb.
