10 Best Crime TV Shows (Since Breaking Bad)
6. Narcos
Who’d have thought that a complex, primarily Spanish language drama with a cast of characters numbering in the dozens and some of the most gruesome violence seen on the small screen would become one of Netflix’s most enduring hits? Narcos seemed destined for The Wire-style cult status, but instead it has become a global smash.
It helps that the story it tells (in its first two seasons) is a fascinating one, a tale many of us know the basics of, but few have the full scoop. Pablo Escobar, Colombian drug lord, is an undeniably engaging subject, and Narcos walks a tricky line, with Wagner Moura’s charismatic performance making the man engaging and likeable, while never losing sight of the atrocities (as well as the good) that Escobar was responsible for.
Narcos moves at a relentless pace, and inspires deep Wikipedia dives after each new player is introduced. For some, the quality sags a little after Escobar’s death, but with further organisations in Colombia and elsewhere, Narcos will be able to peddle its addictive product for years to come.
