8. Can’t Get You Out Of My Head
Rogue was heralded by many as the most traditional Doctor Who story this year, and yet it was also incredibly groundbreaking, as the only Season 1 story penned by new writers, and the first full-on Doctor romance in years.
On this occasion, the lucky fella (another first) was Jonathan Groff’s handsome bounty hunter Rogue. The chemistry between Gatwa and Groff was undeniable, and the ending, where Rogue demonstrates his feelings for the Doctor by sacrificing himself to save Ruby, was masterfully done.
But the story’s most iconic moment was the scene in Rogue’s ship where the Doctor finally convinces his captor that he’s not an undercover Chuldur, all while bopping to Kylie Minogue. This is where we really see the Doctor let his hair down, and the bantering between the pair is a joy to behold.
The sequence is capped off with something altogether more epic, as the Doctor triggers a hologram display of all his past incarnations – including, in another first (for television at least), Richard E. Grant!
This was a moment nobody could get out of their heads. Absolutely electric.
