3. Penguin's Umbrella

Gotham Season 5 Cast Portrait
Fox

If there ever was a character in Gotham that had an incredible evolution and journey, then it would be Penguin. His story arc remains one of those that many fans enjoy the most. And in this episode, you can truly see how determined Oswald Cobblepot is to rise to the top of the pack.

We find out that Oswald has been secretly working for Falcone, and is sharing intelligence he is receiving from Maroni straight back to Falcone. It's an expertly done episode, with Fish Mooney trying to get Oswald back from Maroni, while all three are simultaneously attempting to launch a full out war against Jim Gordon.

A special shout out must also go towards Victor Zsasz - his portrayal is one of the most exciting to watch on screen, and the gun war he ignites inside the GCPD is absolutely thrilling. As for his ringtone... it's funky.

Oswald really comes into his own in this episode and the killing of Frankie Carbone at his own hands was one of the most intense, well-written scenes in the show. The way Oswald stabs Frankie, then kisses him on the head, while spouting words of love is such a strange thing to do, but it works for Oswald's character. It's unsettling, and you can see the way the two henchman exchange glances that they are just as confused and baffled as the audience.
