10 Best Horror Anthology TV Shows

6. Masters of Horror

fear itself
Showtime

The first show produced by Mick Garris, Masters of Horror released in 2005 and found itself to be quite a success. The origins of the series are something out of a horror fans dreams. Garris set up a dinner with notable horror movie directors including but not limited to Guillermo Del Toro, John Carpenter, John Landis, Stuart Gordon and more. Guillermo coined the term "Masters of Horror" in a quip, and the name stuck as Garris continued to organise such dinners.

Eventually, a cable TV programme was conceived and aired with Showtime that attempted to bring many of these masters together to create short hour-long episodes of single horror experiences. With names like John Carpenter and Don Coscarelli, it is no surprise that the show was well received and ran for two seasons.

Allowing the creators the ability to explore their styles fully made for a plethora of original and unique experiences that finely tread the line between too far fetched and horrifying.

A specific recommendation has to be Takashi Miike's phenomenal Imprint. This was a short so horrifying and sadistic that the network refused to air it. This was undoubtedly a good idea as the film's legacy became greater for this, and general audiences might not have been able to handle the incredibly visceral nature of the film. It is easily the series best episode and if you are to watch any from this classic show make sure it is this one.
