10 Best Jobs Homer Simpson Has Ever Had
1. Mr Plow
That’s his name, that name again is Mr Plow...
Like a few of the jobs listed here, Homer’s time as Mr Plow comes in an all time great episode. There’s some great dialogue, fun set pieces, music, character development, and everything else which made The Simpsons the most beloved cartoon of all time.
The episode is one of the first times we see Barney as something more than a two dimensional character, and his position as rival Plow King adds some drama. Most of Homer’s occupations just see him doing a bad or hilarious (often hilariously bad) job of everything, but Mr Plow is different.
He’s enterprising, works hard, does well by most accounts, but is undone by Barney mooching in on his idea. The addition of Lisa Ronstadt adds a touch of class to proceedings too.
Whether it’s Homer shooting his incredibly low budget advert, or just the series of what showrunner Al Jean called ‘very obscure’ references, there’s so much to take in here. Everything from Scorcher to The Godfather to the JFK assassination get lampooned here.
The Simpsons has rarely been funnier, richer, or more fleshed out than the time Homer became Mr Plow.
