10 Best Jobs Homer Simpson Has Ever Had

Homer became the Beer Baron after prohibition was re-enacted in Springfield, taking on new police chief Rex Banner in the process. Though he’s not talked about in the same way as the likes of Frank Grimes and another one off character from Season Eight still to come, Banner is one of the show’s best one offers.

Part of what makes him so great is entirely independent of Homer, with his straight laced at attitude and ‘30s lingo completely at odds with Springfield. It’s undeniably hilarious that he’s consistently outsmarted by someone as idiotic as Homer though.

Homer’s time as Beer Baron first sees him finding the dumped barrels of old Duff beer, then trying to make his own booze in basement bathtubs. Him trying to cover up the noise of the exploding stills by just telling ‘kablamo!’ in the middle of sentences is the peak of silly Homer without making him ridiculous.

He’s turned to smuggling again too, once with vegetables for a spot gag, then smuggling drugs with Burns from Canada in Midnight Rx. It’s a pretty decent episode, though clearly Beer Baron marks his best smuggling days.
