10 Best Moments From Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Year

7. Meeting The Curator

Doctor Who Tom Baker Anniversary As fans had already discovered, Doctor Who's 50th anniversary year was jam-packed with its fair share of surprises, and they didn't come much bigger than the unannounced return of Tom Baker in the closing moments of The Day of the Doctor. There wasn't a dry eye in the house - or cinema, depending on where you watching it - when the then-current Doctor Matt Smith came face to face with the face (are you keeping up?) of his previous incarnation. While the true identity of Tom's character was left up in the air, and referred to only as "the Curator", it was suggested that he was a future Doctor who resided in the National Gallery, particularly to keep an eye on a certain Time Lord painting. Older fans rejoiced in the fitting tribute to their childhood Doctor, whose acclaimed tenure in the TARDIS lasted between the years of 1971 to 1981, making him the longest serving, and arguably the most iconic, Time Lord to date. For the younger generation of Doctor devotees, meanwhile, it was a heartwarming reminder that there's a whole bunch of Classic adventures out there to enjoy. And for those of you who missed seeing Tom in his iconic scarf, fear not! It features in the episode, too, around the neck of Osgood, played by Ingrid Oliver, much to the delight of the Eleventh Doctor himself. Doesn't miss a trick, that man...
