6. Neil Flynn

NBC

Neil Flynn was a great addition to the show. Whilst J.D, Turk, Cox, Elliot and Carla all had the tough job of balancing humour with drama, Flynn had to play the Janitor as almost pure comedy. In a lot of ways, this was a harder job than the actors that surrounded him, since he had to keep the drama of the show grounded with a never-ending stream of strange and wonderfully odd shenanigans.

According to showrunner Bill Lawrence, Flynn was a master of the ad-lib, and would often make up his own lines on set in order to create a more naturalistic environment for the Janitor's humour to thrive.

Though the Janitor was almost always the most consistent source of comedy in the show, there were moments where Flynn was able to tap into the character's more human side, showing a man who was a bit of a bully, but also a bit of a loner who loved being a part of the hospital. Scrubs wouldn't have been the same without him.

Aidan Whatman hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
