10 Best Pike Moments In Star Trek Discovery

2. Leading The Enterprise And Discovery To Victory

The battle in Such Sweet Sorrow part two is up there with some of the very best and most thrilling battles in Star Trek. It had what the Battle at the Binary Stars was lacking and that is heart. By the time the second season is coming to a close, we care about these characters with the years that we have spent with them.

Pike returns to command the USS Enterprise, directing the battle from the bridge that he is used to. However, before he goes, he takes a last moment with the crew he has come to know.

He calls them family. This is something rarely seen so relatively early into a captain's tenure, though it feels earned. While Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer all felt familial ties to their crews through their time, Pike's connection seems somewhat deeper. Through one year of exploring the mystery of the angel, they have gone through hell and back, emerging stronger for it.

His goodbye is one marred with sadness, even with the impending onslaught by Control threatening them. And then he is home, back aboard the Enterprise, returning to the captains chair he knows so well.

The battle begins and he leads both crews to victory, aided along the way by reinforcements from the Klingons and Kelpians. It is a wonderful moment in the history of the show - a true alliance forged in fire, spurring the good guys on to victory.

He watches as Discovery warps away into the future and a part of his heart goes with them. Having done everything he can to help, he turns his ship around and heads home.
